Republicans Convene in Berlin
>> Republicans Abroad holds its European Regional Conference

BERLIN, May 8, 2004 - Over 30 representatives of Republicans Abroad (RA) met in Berlin over the weekend for their 2004 European Regional Conference. With the theme 'An Enduring Partnership', RA members from across the continent discussed strategy for the upcoming presidential election in the U.S. and long-term outreach. The conference included a keynote address by former Virginia Governor James Gilmore.

The two-day conference commenced on Friday with a reception at the German Reichstag hosted by the Wirtschaftsrat der CDU and Bundestag member Günter Nooke. Following a moving speech recalling the long history of transatlantic partnership between the United States and Germany, Nooke provided a personal tour of the Reichstag interior. The evening concluded with dinner at the Café Tucher overlooking the historic Brandenburg Gate.

'So much of our history is connected.' Stated Steven Gavin, a member of the RA Advisory Board who traveled from Washington, DC. 'This city has so much significance to our country and Republicans, it is truly breathtaking to be here.'

The Saturday activities took place at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung where representatives met to review and discuss outreach strategies for the upcoming election.  Special presentations included review of recent reforms to the U.S. federal election law by Robert Horn of the National Republican Lawyers Association and a thoughtful analysis of the evolving state of transatlantic relations by RA Press Secretary Eric Staal. Saturday evening included a dinner at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung with the keynote speech by Governor Gilmore.

'I really enjoy this city.' stated Gilmore. "I appreciate the great history and culture found here. I definitely plan to return.'
