Henry
Nickel Appointed Chairman
>> Germany Committee Resumes Under New
Chairman
BERLIN, GERMANY, January 20, 2004 - European Regional Chairman Robert Pingeon appointed Henry Nickel Country Chairman pro tempore of the Germany Committee of Republicans Abroad in October. Nickel accepted the appointment in November, following consultation with former Country Chairman David Knower who remains City Chairman for Frankfurt. Under Knower's leadership, Republicans Abroad in Germany has greatly expanded its activities in the country including the reception of numerous Republican leaders and decision makers from Washington and state capitals throughout the U.S.
"David has done a great job improving our relations both in Germany and with Republicans back in the States. As a consequence of his leadership, we are poised to make a significant contribution to the upcoming election and continue our successful outreach here in Germany." states Nickel "I will continue to work with David, building upon his success fostering dialogue with Republican leadership and decision makers while reaching out to our support base here in Germany."
Nickel takes office just as the 2004 election season heats up in the U.S. He brings to the committee a background in campaign management and lobbying, having served in
the 2000 election as press director for then Country Chairman Kathryn Griesinger. Nickel recently returned to Germany following two years of service at the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington. With experience working in the capital and holding a degree in communication, legal institutions, economics and government from American University in Washington, Nickel will significantly contribute to the success of the organization over the upcoming year. The new Country Chairman launched his appointment with GOPGERMANY.COM, a website tailored to Germany's Republican community.
In addition to structural enhancements including improved membership programming, public relations and finances, Nickel has outlined plans to improve communications in Germany and between the Party in the U.S. He plans to expand the organization's presence and support over the upcoming months, culminating in
more effective outreach to non-resident U.S. voters in the lead up to the November 2 U.S. elections. Germany hosts one of the single largest populations of non-resident
U.S. voters of any nation in the world.
"We face challenges this year as in any year, but I know we can meet them and enhance the role of Republicans Abroad in Germany." Nickel asserts. "As ambassadors of the Republican Party and the principles it represents, we play a special role in the country. I have faith we will make a significant contribution and continue to build even stronger support for Republicans both among U.S. non-residents and the German public."
